Alberto Ibargüen is retiring as president of the
John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. He’s been there for 18 years. His career includes time at Pro Publica, the PBS Board of Directors, the Newseum and others. He’s a great advocate of small press operations. Note that the Knight Foundation awarded 15 grants in St Paul and a few other MN towns in the last few years, mostly to larger arts and community development groups.
Duluth’s own
Lloyd K Johnson Foundation (for Cook, Lake, and Southern St. Louis counties) named
Erik Torch to take over as Executive Director. He’s already started, so give him a welcome yell. Over the last five years, the Foundation has awarded more than 75 grants for all kinds of things - arts, education, recreation, human services, and health among them.
Also locally,
Headwaters Foundation for Justice (celebrating 40 years since six of us gathered in the People’s Center basement to create this org) has four new staff members. Read about them on the foundation’s
Team Page
We’re also losing another great, committed and seasoned funder;
Denise Mayotte is leaving
Sheltering Arms in a couple months. Sheltering Arms has been lucky to have her. And, frankly, Minnesota is lucky to have Sheltering Arms. More than 75 grants of equitable opportunities for children all over the state. Great funder!
Looking for good board members? Last month the Minneapolis St Paul Business Journal listed its nominees for Minnesota
Women Of the Year including Susan Bachman West, Tani Austin, Tonya Chapman, Georgia Fort, Elena Gaarder and Katie Matis Sarver. You may need a subscription to view this.
