Business notes: The company develops software for managing business data, supporting business operations, and facilitating collaboration and application development. Companies use Oracle's database management software to store and access data across numerous platforms. The company also offers business applications for data warehousing, customer relationship management, and supply chain management. Following a controversial and lengthy takeover batle, Oracle agreed to acquire PeopleSoft for $10.3 billion in December 2004; Oracle recently announced that it owned about 75% of PeopleSoft.
Takeaway Notes: Computer Industry ~

Overview: The corporation has recently gone through an extended multi-billion dollar struggle to takeover a smaller competitor, PeopleSoft. Consequently, the company's foundation giving programs have been suspended indefitinely. There is no word from the corporation on when or if the giving programs will be reinstated. There is no word on how the merger will effect either company's giving programs in the future.

In the meantime, the corporation continues to advertise its corporate giving program which is distinct from its corporate foundation and from its equipment contributions programs. See the foundation's profile elsewhere on the Access Philanthropy webpage.

Until recently, Oracle makes charitable contributions to a wide-range of nonprofit organizations involved with K-12 education, open spaces, environmental education, endangered species protection, cancer research, AIDS research, and neuroscience research.

However, the corporation recently announced that it is restructuring its corporate giving program and indefinitely is no longer accepting unsolicited proposals for either its foundation or its corporate giving program.

The corporation reports that it intends to continue supporting the communities where it has signficant numbers of employees (especially the San Francisco Peninsula), but will be expanding the scope and nature of its giving to reflect the company's international interests.

No timeline has been given for when the restructuring will be completed. However, it's a good bet it won't be complete until the PeopleSoft merger has been fully realized.
