Overview: The Walmart Foundation's mission is to provide opportunities that improve the lives of individuals in their communities including customers and associates. Through financial contributions, in-kind donations and volunteerism, the Walmart Foundation supports initiatives focused on enhancing opportunities in four main focus areas:
1. Education 2. Workforce Development / Economic Opportunity 3. Environmental Sustainability 4. Health and Wellness
The Walmart Foundation has a particular interest in supporting the following populations: veterans and military families, traditionally underserved groups, the disability community and people impacted by natural disasters.
Now the largest corporation on the Fortune 500 list, this Arkansas-based national retail chain and wholesale variety stores, believes in the philosophy of “acting globally and giving back locally” and works to design giving programs that include local associates in determining how Walmart Foundation dollars are used to support causes that are important to them. Between the Walmart Foundation’s international and national efforts as well as grants awarded at the state and store/club level, the foundation awards more grants and in more communities than any other foundation in the world.
Overviews of selected programs are below:
Facility Giving Program The foundation awards grants of $250 to $5,000 to local, state, and national nonprofit organizations recommended by Walmart Stores, Sam's Club, Distribution Centers and Transportation Offices.
