Business notes: Although the foundation was originally financed by the family that established the HJ Heinz corporation, the foundation has no connections with the food company.

Overview: Giving primarily for the Heinz Awards, environmental organizations, arts and cultural organizations, and women's health and pension.

Heinz Awards: Established in 1992, the program is the primary activity of the Heinz Family Foundation.

Award nominations are submitted by a Council of Nominators, who serve anonymously, and are reviewed by jurors appointed by the foundation.

In addition to this foundation, the Heinz familys supports several other foundations, the largest of which are the Howard Heinz Endowment and the Vira I. Heinz Endowment, both of which are profiled in the Access Philanthropy database.
